I think what is important is the perception that digital culture facilitates restless exploration, hence my over-enthusiastic employment of arrows which I see as being the antithesis of nomadic thought and yet seem symptomatic of “click here”.

We want radical opacity. We want maximum surprise! …I think it’s an important new skill, maybe even a new liberal art. When you articulate it, it sounds almost like a koan, or part of some samurai code:

Work in public. Reveal nothing.

In a mediated world, the opposite of real isn’t phony or artificial—it’s optional. Idiomatically, we recognize this when we say, “the reality is…,” meaning something that has to be dealt with, something that isn’t an option.

I have still not personally seen the Fail Whale error 404 message insitu whilst using Twitter and so I will not fully feel part of the community until I do.

this week, I have sat in awe of the presentations people have produced. That’s what I can’t fully capture in my weekly blog – the inspiration, the creative possibilities, the wonderful tools that people use or tweet/blog about…

This morning I’ve learned to listen to my computer. I’ve been fiddling with my ethnography – adding content and then messing with the fonts. The computer kept telling me that it didn’t like the font I’d chosen and if I didn’t choose another it was going to really mess with me and waste my time…did I listen? no. So an hour later I am back to square 1: the computer has stopped, my changes to both the form and content of the ethnography page are gone. Will I listen next time, yes! Who is in control? The computer of course.

I now position myself as appropriated by the community but I have joined nothing — it has merely transformed me.
